FIVE MOVIE LOCATIONS IN COLOMBIA - By: Néstor Meléndez
What I am about to tell you, I believe, has happened to all of us, and that is that there are some places one passes through that make one feel like they are in a movie.
For a few moments, one becomes a character from past eras or even a contemporary artist or a hero from the future. In Colombia, there are many locations where one can feel, for a moment, like a movie or TV star.
These are just 5 of many places in Colombia that, when explored, have the power to turn you into a full-fledged movie character, if your imagination allows it.
- SAN AGUSTÍN:
The San Agustín Archaeological Park, in the department of Huila, is an automatic transporter to legendary times.
Here you will find ceremonial centers, monumental tombs, and anthropomorphic figures with a dual personality, human and animal, carved in stone by a culture that inhabited the area from 1000 BC until 1350 AD, when they mysteriously abandoned this sacred place.
It was rediscovered in the late 18th century. In 1931, it was declared a National Park, which has guaranteed its preservation and archaeological and historical research.
San Agustín was declared a World Heritage Site in 2009.
You will constantly feel the diverse nature of the Andes with its amazing splendor, and the local inhabitants, mostly indigenous people and settlers, will be protagonists and extras in your personal story in the mountains of Colombia.
- VILLA DE LEYVA:
This picturesque town has been the setting for many films and telenovelas as it perfectly preserves its colonial and republican architecture; film and television directors are attracted by the colors painted by the setting sun and the contrasts between the forest, mountains, valley, and desert that dominate its geography.
Everywhere you look in Villa de Leyva, you can find the perfect shot to imagine a story. There is a huge central square and houses that have remained the same for over four centuries. Convents and dinosaur fossils are also part of the charm of a town that also hosts various festivals and events throughout the year.
An unforgettable place I recommend visiting in Colombia.
- COFFEE REGION:
If there's one fun plan in the country that you shouldn't miss, it's visiting the land where Juan Valdez cultivates and harvests the world's most famous coffee, due to its excellent quality, Colombian Coffee.
And it is in the Coffee Region where you will find farmers who are very similar to Juan Valdez, the universally recognized advertising figure that identifies Colombian coffee growers.
There you can experience and feel the so-called Coffee Cultural Landscape, a World Heritage Site since 2011.
The coffee cultural landscape is a blend where the nature of the place and the cultural interaction of its inhabitants have created an area with perfect characteristics to produce Colombian coffee, one of the best in the world, and other alternate and derived products.
The images you will capture on this trip will remain forever as special lifetime moments.
- CHOCO PACIFIC:
The boat sways with the waves; the experienced captain asks for silence. The sounds of the breeze and the cries of the seagulls signal something grand coming from the depths of the sea. Suddenly, an immense figure appears: it is a young humpback whale flirting with its partner in a dance between water and sky.
This is a scene you can make real in the Colombian Pacific off the department of Chocó. Towns like Bahía Solano and Nuquí are adorned during the humpback whale mating season.
It's a love rendezvous that takes place from July to November in exotic locations where the jungle kisses the sea, and solitary beaches invite relaxation and communion with Mother Nature.
You'll feel like you're in a National Geographic documentary or on your own planetary explorer adventure.
- TAGANGA:
A fishing village that has become a meeting point for backpackers from all over the world, and that at night transforms into a party with many languages, is a perfect location for a film about rebellious young people who meet for an instant.
Taganga is a place where travel plans are made, experiences are exchanged, contacts are shared, and the wild youth from all over the world live it up.
Some shots from this film, you might delete from your digital memory but not from your recollections.
These are some of the locations for your film in Colombia. It is undoubtedly a photogenic country that will remain in the filmography of your heart.
